  1. Breast cancer is genetic
  2. This is the most common among the 10 myths to ignore about breast cancer. The truth is that about 5-10% only of cases are due to genes. Even women without family history of breast cancer are susceptible to the disease.

  3. Women with small breasts have a lower risk
  4. A woman’s bra size is not related to her risk of having breast cancer. Breast cancer develops in the cells lining the lobules or ducts and women have the same number regardless of breast size.

  5. Breast cancer always appears as a lump
  6. About 10% of women diagnosed with breast cancer don’t have the usual symptoms such as tenderness or lumps. About 80% of lumps detected are not cancerous and are just cysts. The best diagnosis is through a mammogram and breast exam.

  7. Mammograms reduce risk for breast cancer

  15. Antiperspirants and deodorant increase the risk for breast cancer

  17. Not wearing a bra decreases your cancer risk significantly
