Day Whitening Cream – The Benefits of Sun Protection

By: Melissa Snyte

With half of Hollywood running around with orange faces, it seems that tanning is still all the rage. However, the tide is slowly turning to a more natural type of beauty, as more and more people fall prey to skin cancer and realize that a deep tan isn’t really worth the health risks associated with it. As a result, products like a day whitening cream are instead becoming popular. Already common with stars in Asia and other countries, the benefits of a good day whitening cream are now also being seen in the USA and beyond.

Many people may be averse to a day whitening cream, thinking that it will make them look sickly or like they have makeup on. Instead, the ingredients in today’s day whitening cream options are formulated more to give a protective layer to their wearers, and improve overall skin health. This stand in sharp contrast to the old ingredients that used to be put into day whitening creams. For hundreds of years, whitening formulas would include ingredients such as lead, arsenic, or mercury, which could literally poison their wearers.

Naturally, times have changed, and so have beauty standards. Good health is now considered to be more beautiful than looking wan and sickly, so a day whitening cream that you see today is more formulated to erase flaws and scars, leaving you with more uniform and blemish-free skin. While tanning on the face or bronzing merely hides these flaws and leaves you with the potential to gain wrinkles and look older than you real age, a day whitening cream is meant to have the opposite effect. Be sure to look for a cream that comes equipped with a high SPF or you will end up just undoing all these benefits.

Other ingredients to look for in your day whitening cream would include alpha hydroxy acids, which help revitalize and renew skin. These day creams can be supplemented by night creams that restore the skin cells and help undo past damage. This cannot be performed within the space of a day, so it’s best to remain realistic about what a skin brightener can or cannot do for your face. Yet as the tides change and beauty becomes more natural, this is a good way to preserve your youth for far longer, and leave your skin feeling light, soft, and supple in comparison to those who have taken up tanning in particular.
