With the winter breeze, feeling of emotional touch also comes in way of life. The beginning of this season brings with it drying of leaves, a blazing wind and cool air flows on your skin surface. The fluctuating weather and temperature sets our skin in trouble and therefore there arises a need to take special care for the skin. Such alteration in temperature tends the skin to lose moisture and make it dull and less attractive.
Flowing of dry wind and cold breeze damages the skin texture, thus forming cracks and giving rise to fine lines. The skin becomes stretched and itchy. All this is because of the drying up of skin moisture that removes the softness, suppleness and glow of skin.
You might be doubtful in solving many questions regarding skin care. There arises a question that should we use sunscreen during winter or not. What shall be the reason behind drying up of skin, and many such questions remain unclear in your mind.
You should apply sunscreen of adequate SPF of 30 undoubtedly before going outside even in winters too. This is so as sunscreen protects skin from harmful sunrays like UVA and UVB rays. It has a dual property of preventing against ultraviolet rays as well as maintaining skin moist. Thus, application of sunscreen should carry regularly to prevent further damage of skin from sunrays.
In winter our skin turns dry because in this weather atmosphere contains less humidity that leads to loss in skin moisture. These results into chapped lips, flaky scalp and dull skin. Those with oily skin type our much blessed in this season as they are not too much affected, but those with dry skin type are adversely affected with severe irritation and itching.
Here are some tips that will help you to care your skin properly in winter:
Moisten your skin by applying good moisturizer cream after bathing, washing, patting and showers.
In winters use humidifier especially at bed time and close the windows and doors tightly that will prevent passage of moist air from inside to outside.
Regularly apply sunscreen that will protect you from sunrays and will also keep your skin moist.
Prefer using mild facial cleansers, without non-drying bases. Take special care for dry skin.
Protecting chapped lips in winter
Chapped lips are caused due to loss of moisture that occurs by extensive use of lipsticks or constant smacking of lips or even eating citric fruits. In some cases, it may also be as an allergic reaction due to some toothpaste, lipstick, or even mouthwash.
Simple preventive measures that you can follow to prevent chapped lips:
Never lick your lips especially in winter season when there is cold weather as doing this can cause drying and cracking of lip surface. The saliva that lies on lips evaporates with moisture and also lips lack lips glands that make it more dry and rough. For this purpose, make sure that you use of lip balm regularly that will provide protective covering to your lips.
Atleast once a week provide exfoliation to your lips. You can do this by gently brushing lips with smooth wet toothbrush in circular manner.
Apply lip liner and then color the lips with lipstick and apply gloss, instead of simply applying drying matte lipsticks.
To avoid chapped lips apply repeatedly thick coat of lip balm. If your lips are already severely chapped then go for medicated balm that contain pain relieving components like camphor, phenol and menthol.
See to it that your lips are properly healed and have become soft. Then stop to medicated lip balm and try non-medicated balm that essentially contain ingredients like allantoin, honey and vitamin E. Apply the balm in the morning and at intervals in the day time and also before going to bed.
