Eyelash Growth Facts
Eyelashes have been an important attribute to beauty for thousands of years. Although much emphasis is put on the length and thickness of a person’s eyelashes, they also work as the eye’s natural defense against dust and debris. Eyelashes grow on a cycle much like the other hair on a person’s body and like any hairs, it is normal for eyelashes to fall out and only to be replaced with new hairs. Eyelashes can be lost from using harmful cosmetic, medical conditions, or they fall out naturally, but there are a number of products available to help jump start the regrowth.
So how do Eyelashes grow back? Well, all human hairs go through three stages of growth and development. The first stage is called Anagen, which is the active, growing stage of the hair. For eyelashes, this stage usually lasts about 30 or 40 days. During this stage, hair will keep growing unless it is pulled or plucked out. The next stage of growth is called the Catagen Phase. During this phase, the hair is in a state of transition and is no longer growing. The outer sheath of the eyelash shrinks down to attach itself to the lash’s root. If an Eyelash happens to fall out during this phase, it will not grow back until the catagen phase is over. This phase usually lasts 2 to 3 weeks.
The last phase of hair growth is the Telogen Phase, which is the hair’s natural resting phase. It is during this phase that most hairs, including Eyelashes, fall out. If a person loses an eyelash during this phase, it means that new lashes will grow back faster because the growth cycle was not interrupted. Pulling or plucking eyelashes means that the eyelashes that are still maintaining active growth will not be capable of starting new growth like the lashes that fall out at the end of their resting cycle.
So, do Eyelashes grow back? Yes! It does not matter what phase the lash has been lost it will eventually grow back. It may take weeks or even months to replace an eyelash, depending on when it was lost and if the loss is attributed to a medical condition, then it may take longer than that. A doctor can prescribe certain supplements or there are several natural and cosmetic remedies that help grow Lashes back so that a person can have full, beautiful lashes every day.
