Healthy Menu Choices When Eating Out

Healthy Menu ChoicesEating out is a normal part of life and is unavoidable. Whether it’s a celebration with family or friends, you don’t have to sacrifice your diet program when you dine out. You just need to exercise a little self-restraint and avoid great-tasting unhealthy foods. You need to be aware that there are healthy menu choices when eating out. Here are some of these healthy choices for different types of cooking:

  1. Chinese Food
  2. There are a lot of healthy menu choices when eating out in Chinese restaurants. This is because Chinese cooking uses a lot of fresh vegetables. However, oil and thick sauces with a lot of sodium are also a big part of Chinese cooking. The good news is that you can specifically request for the cook to keep the salt levels low and use only a small amount of soy sauce. You can order steamed or grilled fish or chicken dishes which contain a high amount of lean protein. You can also try some steamed dim sum. Also, order some stir-fried vegetable dishes which have a good amount of fiber.

Remember to stay clear of deep fried and battered dishes like spring rolls, prawn crackers and crispy noodles. Also, don’t forget to remove the skin of duck and chicken dishes to avoid high unhealthy fat consumption.

  3. Italian Food
  4. This is probably one of the most difficult when it comes to healthy menu choices when eating out. Just think about high calorie and carbohydrate pizzas and pasta dishes that can break the calorie bank. However, there are also a lot of healthy food choices that can help you save your diet if you have enough self-discipline to skin the enticing pizza and pasta dishes. You can try a slice or two of thin and crispy pizzas with lean meat toppings and plenty of vegetables. Most Italian Restaurants have vegetarian pizzas available. You should also prefer tomato-based sauces when ordering pasta.

Avoid stuffed crust and deep pan pizzas that contain a lot of carbohydrates and calories. A slice can contain up to 500 calories. Avoid processed meat pizza toppings such as pepperoni and meatballs. Also, avoid ordering extra cheese. Minimize consumption of garlic bread.

Summary

You can go out and eat as much as you want as long as you stick with healthy menu choices when eating out . Remember that the key to a successful diet is self-discipline and moderation. The best diets allow you to eat almost anything as long as you don’t overindulge.
