Ocean Actives Squalane Overview

Ocean Actives Squalane is a moisturizer designed for all skin types. Its main active ingredient is squalane, a naturally-occurring regenerative compound found in human skin, but derived from shark liver oil. It works as both an anti-aging formula as well as a moisturizer. The site claims that the only other ingredient in Ocean Actives Squalane is pure lavender oil.

The site’s layout is very sales-oriented, with most of the information on one page. The right-hand column lists a series of positive testimonials, which state skin results as “glowing”, “plump” and “looking younger”. There is unfortunately no information on clinical trials or how fast results are to be expected, other than that results get “better and better” with each use. Every time Ocean Actives Squalane is mentioned, it’s a clickable link to the order page, encouraging you to buy it.

The site is very bare-bones, and offers little in the way of help information or even an FAQ. The main text is written in the style of a letter by the company’s founder, Dr Susan Lark, and is off-puttingly conversational, with meaningless phrases such as “don’t misunderstand,” and “when I discovered this, I instantly understood…”.

Ocean Actives Squalane - Product Description

Ocean Actives SqualaneOne of just two ingredients in Ocean Actives Squalane is squalane itself, a regenerative skin compound found in sebum, but here it’s derived from shark liver oil, thereby making it unsuitable for vegetarians or vegans. The site goes on to mention that the squalane is taken from Centrophorous sharks, that only swim in the deep, non-polluted waters of Tasmania, meaning that the skin of the sharks is tougher, smoother and healthier. Squalane is found naturally in young, human skin, and works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as acting as an antioxidant.

The only other ingredient of Ocean Actives Squalane is lavender oil, which has proven soothing, anti-stress and antiseptic benefits. It’s difficult to believe that Ocean Actives Squalane contains absolutely nothing else, particularly as it’s not recommended to use pure lavender oil without a carrier oil such as olive oil, evening primrose oil or apricot oil to dilute the lavender and provide the lubricant properties the site’s blurb states that Ocean Actives Squalane does.

A single 2oz bottle costs $29.99, which can only be bought from the official site or by phone. Currently, the formula is on offer with a $10 saving on a 3-bottle purchase. The company offers free shipping as well as a no-questions-asked returns policy, even if the bottle is returned empty.

Ocean Actives Squalane Advantage

  • Minimal number of ingredients; use of lavender oil
  • Low cost
  • No-hassle returns policy
  • Fairly positive online reviews

Ocean Actives Squalane - Drawbacks

  • Animal-derived ingredients
  • No scientific info on the site
  • Difficult to find offline

Ocean Actives Squalane - The Bottomline

Although Ocean Actives Squalane claims to have just two ingredients, the inclusion of “pure lavender oil” without a carrier oil appears suspect, as it’s an unsafe practice that actually irritates and dries the skin. The practice of deriving squalane from sharks seems slightly unsavory even for non-vegetarians/vegans, as it vastly differs from the idea of taking gelatin or stearates from animals used for breeding purposes. Given that there’s neither a lot of information on the site nor availability offline, there’s little to recommend other than the very generous returns policy.
