Khloe and Kourtney
Does it mean that parents no longer wish to keep up with the Kardashians? The name Khloe, though still in the top 100 names, showed a 10 percent decrease in 2014 while Kourtney dropped from number 860 to number 1027 in the same year. We’ve also noted that the names that begin with “K” seem to be on their way out. 40 percent of the top 10 names that showed popularity decrease start with the letter “K”. Some of them are Kaya, Karly, Karissa, and Kaylyn.
Britney and Miley
Both Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus have had several controversies over the last couple of years. This could explain why these names are plummeting. The name Britney dropped in popularity from number 839 in 2013 to number 1154 in 2014. The name Miley had the biggest drop last year. It sunk from number 388 in 2013 to number 733 in 2014. It appears that parents did not like these stars’ journeys when it came to the theme of good girls going bad.
Gwyneth and Rhianna
The name Gwyneth has gone down in popularity, to number 1058 in 2014 from number 889 in 2013. However, the name is still on the list of top 1,000 names. The name Rhianna dropped in popularity from number 956 in 2013 to number 1189 in 2014, making the name Rhianna number 6 in decreased usage.
Male names that are showing signs of decline in usage include Dwayne and Carmelo. The top 10 down trending names for boys include Amare, Deegan, Bently, Corban, Juelz, Sidney, Damion, Jair, Xair, and Isiah.
