Jennifer Lawrence and X-Men: Confirms Mystique Will Be Signature Shade
Bet you probably missed Hunger Games’ District 12’s Katniss Everdeen and the mischievous, deceitful character of the young Mystique in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past were portrayed by one and the same actress, Jennifer Lawrence.
X-Men which has come out with a total of five films and two spin offs since 2000 continues to be one of the most sought after superhero films. Though the movies have been led by different directors, the final results are always awesome! The X-Men: Apocalyse film installment of this 14-year old franchise is one of the most awaited films of 2016.
Lawrence, who has given life to Mystique’s character since 2011, has announced that the third X-Men installment, X-Men: Apocalyse will mark her last and final participation in the franchise. Although Lawrence did not explain the reason behind her decision to drop out of the franchise and stop playing the role of Mystique, fans and critics are hardly concerned that Lawrence will be missed on the big screen anytime soon.
Having proven herself to be a highly versatile artist, the Academy Award winning actress has been either nominated or recognized by different award giving bodies in her lead and supporting roles, particularly for her appearance in two noteworthy films.
She bagged the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the 2012 film, Silver Linings Playbook, a peculiar love story about a deranged, divorced man and a recently widowed woman, who badly needed each others’ help so that they could both move on to live their new lives and realities.
Other nominations citing Lawrence for recognition are: Academy Award Best Actress for her 2010 film, Winter’s Bone, and Academy Award Best Supporting Actress for the 2013 movie, American Hustle. She also has two Golden Globe Awards under her belt — Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy (2013) for Silber Linings Playbook, and Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture (2014) for American Hustle.
The natural acting skills and capabilities of Lawrence has been apparent and unmistakably remarkable as well in playing the role of Mystique in the X-Men series. Many people give Lawrence credit for bringing in more depth and profoundness in Mystique’s character, of course, often in comparison with American Actress, Rebecca Romijm, who was selected previously to portray Mystique in the original cast of X-Men. Lawrence portrayal has immortalized Mystique and captured people’s interests in Mystique’s story.
Director Bryan Singer’s call to make Mystique and her unforgiving frequency of transformations as natural as possible (read: physically painstakingly painted on the body) and with less CGI has most definitely left audiences in awe with the stunning detail in Mystique’s skinny, blue transformations. This, too, added to the public’s growing fascination with her character.
Mystique’s uncanny abilities known as a ‘shapeshifer’ in the mutant language, makes her capable of making a replica of anybody, both in terms of their physical appearance and their voice. This makes Mystique a tough villain to defeat.
However, in the third installment of the X-Men series, Apocalypse, Mystique crosses over to the side of the X-Men to collaborate more closely with Professor X, and rally the young X-Men team to fight against Apocalypse who happens to be the most powerful mutant. This next installment in the series required Mystique to suppress her natural killer instincts and become more Raven Darkholme than Mystique.
The full film is set to come out in May 2016 and is already anticipated to become another blockbuster. The trailer for this latest installment was recently released worldwide. To the dismay of many, the clips showed Lawrence in her natural, bare skin. Fans and X-Men fanatics are afraid that the very blue, very stunningly sleeky mystique will not appear at all in the movie.
In response, Lawrence said that Mystique will most definitely be covered in blue in X-Men: Apocalypse. Although this is already the 7th X-Men movie, including the X-Men spinoffs, Mystique’s amazing transformations remain to be among the most awaited scenes in this movie.
Perhaps unbeknownst to many, it takes Lawrence up to 8 hours of setting her makeup and body painting, and sitting on a bicycle every time the scene calls for her to suit up into Mystique’s character. Meticulously putting together in plain flesh what could have already been left for CGI, certainly has helped factor into the increasingly intriguing role of Mystique. The two previous installments have incorporated a lot of close ups on Mystique’s skin whenever she transformed into somebody else and transformed back again — and this is exactly what fans are looking forward to see in Apocalypse.
Other than X-Men Apocalypse, Lawrence is also set to star in , ‘Joy” where she portrays the life of a single mother who struggled to support her two children. The story relates how the character of Lawrence (Joy Mangano) eventually became a top entrepreneur when she founded and invented the Miracle Mop. Joy also shows in cinemas in 2016.
