69th Annual Maine Lobster Festival – 5-Day Fun on the Fabulous Maine!
It’s that time of the year again when you can tickle your tastebuds on hot Maine lobster drenched in buttery goodness! Did you know that roughly 20,000 pounds of lobster are cooked during the festival? Crazy, huh.
What to Expect In This Festival?
The Maine Lobster Festival is a 5-day celebration filled with fun activities and of course, a lobster (and seafood) food fest! It’s a famous celebration frequented by thousands of visitors from around the world.
The annual Maine Lobster Festival will take place during the first week of August, from Wednesday through Sunday (August 3-7, 2016) at Rockland’s Harbor Park.
Things to See
The Maine Lobter Festival showcases all the hallmarks of a festive, great local celebration, including the Main Street parade, seafood cooking contest, arts and crafts, entertainment, kids event, Steins and Vines tasting event, The Great Lobster Crate Race, fun runs, Maine Sea Goddess Pageant and more!
Main Street Parade
Approximately 25,000 visitors go to Maine to witness this Big Parade. Here, you can snap A LOT of picture-perfect moments as you enjoy the show. You’ll be amused with massive, beautifully crafted floats and blissful sights as musicians and dancers stroll by. The parade may take a while, so it’s best to bring a folding chair with you.
Arts and Crafts
Feast your eyes on the stunning works of art and crafty creations at the festival, such as photography baskets, handicrafts, pottery, oil paintings, water color, jewelry, accessories and some edible treats. Local artists display their masterpieces at the “Fine Arts Tent” and a “Cart Tent”, where you can roam the isle of art, have a chat with the artists or purchase their work.
Seafood Cooking Contest
If you love watching cooking contests on TV, then you’ll definitely be thrilled to watch one on sight. It’s fun, adrenaline-pumping and hilarious! Any amateur chefs aged 18+ are welcome to join the contest. The winner gets $200 and of course, bragging rights.
If you love music, then the perfect synergy of entertainment in the festival grounds throughout the day will delight your ears – and yes, warm your soul. As jazz, reggae, celtic, blues and folk music fill the air, go ahead and sing and dance along.
As this festival is a family affair, kids can also enjoy fun activities throughout the day. The “Children’s Tent” has several games and friendly competitions for kids, and you can also take them to the “Marine Tent” for an exciting and memorable hands on experience.

Admission tickets can be bought at the entrance gates for $5 for adults and $2 for kids aged 6-12.

It’s easy to spot the festival site.You can reach Rockland in four hours by car from Boston. Or you can fly into Portland International Jetport and drive for less than 2 hours to Rockland.

Some Friendly Reminders
Do not bring shoe skates, skateboards, bicycles, bulky chairs and coolers because they are not allowed in the premises.
Parking slots are limited. You can park at Rockland District Middle School or Rockland District Highschool, then take a free shuttle to the festival site. Be sure to be there early, as parking slots fill up fast.
