  • Blockage of blood or lymphatic vessels in the upper parts of the body that are likely to develop blood pooling in the lower limbs.
  • Blood viscosity being higher than normal.
  • Water retention as a consequence of heart condition, kidney problems or some kind of injury.
  • Undue accumulation of water between the tissue and cells as a result of inflammation or infection.

The apparent triggers for the above physiological action could be any one or more of factors such as unhealthy or inflammatory diet, faulty life style, lack of physical exercises, build up of toxin , defective body postures (while sitting, standing or sleeping), improper medication and insomnia. Pregnancy also contributes to fluid retention in most women.

How Do You Alleviate the Problem?

It is therefore evident that you should be particularly watchful of the triggers mentioned above to eliminate the root cause of fluid retention and cellulite. All the same, treatments and massages also help to reduce fluid retention. One of the common methods is manual lymphatic drainage, which is an advanced form of massage that removes blockage and restores natural lymphatic flow. Developing a habit of keeping the legs at a higher level also helps in flow of the lymph from the lower limbs toward the upper regions of the body.

Maintaining a strict regimen of diet, physical exercises and a change in life style is the best treatment to alleviate fluid retention and the resulting cellulite condition. In fact, this specific advice is always given by doctors as one of the cellulite prevention/treatment methods and also to complement other anti-cellulite procedures normally undertaken to reduce the menace of cellulite.
